Mumbai , Kirti College, Dadar.
A group of college friends, infuriated by a small incident of gender discrimination, decided to take matters into their own hands and work towards building a safer city for women. We ended up mobilising more than 5000 college students from colleges all over Mumbai on the 16th of December, 2013, the 1st death anniversary of Nirbhaya).
These students went on to educate Mumbaikars about the importance of gender equality through Nukkad Naataks, one to one conversations, flash mobs, slogans and placards. They then gathered at Kirti College in Dadar for the closing ceremony where eminent speakers from the Police, Judiciary, Self-Defence and Government agencies educated the audience about their rights and duties with respect to the cause.
The event was a huge success and laid the stepping stones for Rise to become what it is today.
